Oh, hi there! Did you think I feel off the face of the Earth? I didn't, I assure you…although, sometimes it feels like it. :) I've had a crazy time adjusting to our new house, our new (old) city, our new life rhthyms. I wanted to get back to the topic at hand though, which is really where such a large part of my energy has resided lately, loving Husband well.
First, let me show you how we spent our Saturday…at the apple orchard and pumpkin patch. It was such a glorious fall day, and it was so needed. Fresh air, sunshine, apple cider slushies…all small delights.
Now, these are things I know about my husband…
- he loves to be active as a couple
- he is a physical touch guy…loves hugs, holding hands, shoulder rubs
- he isn't overly impressed by my punctuality…much to my chagrin (obviously, timeliness is important to ME!)
- he needs margin in his life
- he is a deeply relational person, with a high threshold for socialness
- he enjoys rest
- he prefers the house to be very orderly
So, to love my husband well, I focused on a few of these things throughout the 2 weeks he has been home. First, we decided to work out together on Monday and Wednesday evenings. We meet at the gym after he works and the kids go to the gym childcare while we squeeze in a hour of active/couple time. It's so much fun and totally a lighthearted way to connect. Second, we planned a night with friends where we made a bonfire and watched football. That filled up his "social tank" and helped him feel reconnected with our friends in Indiana. Third, we have worked hard at getting the house into a rhythm and on its way to being organized and orderly.
These things are not huge or life-changing, but they are ways that I can love Husband well which take very little commitment from me. They are just simple ways that I can keep him in mind and love him well.
What are some ways you can love the important people in your life well? What do you know about them that would help you love them better?
