Extreme Home Makeover :: Husband Edition

Let me be honest, friends.  I am not serene.  I am not feeling adventurous.  I am feeling burnt out, jaded, disillusioned, and upset.  This transition has been horrible–the loan that should have taken 4 weeks to secure has taken nearly 8, due to no fault of our own.  And, to top it off, Husband has been with us for only 2 weeks of our almost 8 weeks in Indiana.  He left on Sunday, we might close on our house on Wednesday.  But, we've been told it's time to close a few times before.  I won't believe it until the keys are in my hands.

But, in an effort to make a cruddy situation fun–I've decided to take the next 3 weeks and transform "the house" into "our home".  I told Husband that I thought I'd earned the right to be able to have decorating control for the 3 weeks he was gone (trust me, the dude has decorating opinions).  He agreed, somewhat reluctantly.  So, I got busy with my plans and lists and those sorts of fun things…and suddenly, the idea popped in my head.  We'll do this Extreme Home Makeover style.

Husband has been banned from reading this little blog for the 3 weeks he is in Texas.  And, we get to have a little decorating fun.  As soon as we close on the house, our flooring contractor will lay the 2000 lbs of African Walnut wood I had delivered today.  That will be the first big step to make "this house" into "our home".

Will you come along with me over the next 3 weeks as I make some splurges, make some family pieces my own, and design my way to a house that is thoroughly me?  I hope you will, I think the blank slate has tons of potential.

Exterior-before

exterior (not much will happen here…maybe a painted door and shutters??)

Familyroom-before

family room before with the fireplace and the firewood niche

Kitchen-before

the kitchen before…with a lot of mess. :)

The entire downstairs will be African Walnut 6" planks, which I'm thrilled about.  It should look beautiful when it's all done, and it was a splurge and a necessity at the same time.  We needed to replace the flooring in at least the family room and eat-in area of the kitchen (it was some sort of indoor/outdoor carpeting)–and we wanting continuous flooring to make the downstairs appear as open as possible.

The rest, I'm unsure about–but I do hope you'll come along and see all the big (and small) projects I have up my sleeves for the next 3 weeks.  We'll have a "style survey" from Husband, and I'll be posting some DIY ideas that you might try at home.

Hope we can turn this extremely trying situation into a fun one…wanna come along for the adventure?
