This week I will take a Yoga class in my community. I have long been interested in the physical aspect of yoga. As a former gymnast, I find myself longing for the days when I was bendy and nimble. My body feels sore and tight–all the time–a product of stress or babies (both??).
As interested about the physical side of yoga I have been, I have wondered if the spiritual side of yoga is in opposition of my beliefs as a Christian. I had heard that somewhere sometime from someone, and for some reason the idea has stuck in my head. However, I don't like living my life based on a structure of beliefs that are fear based. So, I will not avoid yoga out of fear that I am worshiping some illusive other god. But, I will research influential and respected Christian thinkers and consult my own pastor about their thoughts on yoga.
If nothing that I read or personal feel compelled or convicted about seems absolutely averse to yoga, then I plan on attending a class this week. I also heard about a fantastic massage they do where they move your body to stretch it out. Now, that sounds like what I need. :)
