M34 :: Watch the Business of Being Born

Picture 41 I am a little less than 11 weeks away from giving birth to this third little guy of ours.  I think the way each new person enters the world is striking, individual, amazing, and so sacred.  However, I have never been a proponent of natural childbirth…more like, "Eh, if it works for you, great!".  You can bet that I will be in the hospital bed enjoying my epidural.  :)  I love that women have the choice to birth in the way they desire–and am so proud of the women who choose to birth naturally.  I am also so proud of the women who choose a medically "intervened" birth.  I am proud of any gosh darn woman who brings a baby into the world…no matter how they get there!

BUT, I am fascinated by the discussion surrounding natural childbirth, the dollars and cents that childbirth means to hospitals and doctors, and the methods each woman chooses.  I have wanted to watch the documentary "The Business of Being Born" for several years now.  It is similar to my desire to watch Food, Inc. and the Story of Stuff.

Let me be clear.  I already know my "plan" for Twig3's birth.  I have done this twice before (and I will tell you those stories this week).  While I reserve the right that my mind could be changed by something I see this week–I am not open to being "persuaded" by blog readers.  :)  I don't want this to become a forum for a "she said/she said" kind of deal where women are defending their choices.

I am excited to watch, and I encourage you to watch, too.  You can rent it here.  I'll be back this week with more about birth and babies.
