words to ponder 1

A new feature for Fridays is “Words to Ponder”. I am a collector of quotes and words–and thinking about new maxims and thoughts is integral to the ways I expand my passions and bravery. So, Words to Ponder will be a quick and dirty brain dump keeping the quote and image in mind.  You are invited to link up over the weekend with your own thoughts–just use the basic format below (initial reaction, what it requires, and a picture that will remind you) and make sure to link back to think post. :)

Initial Reaction:

I really struggle with the fear of the unknown.  I often prefer the devil I know versus the devil I don’t.  That leads to anxiety and squelches creativity and courage.  Replacing a fear of the unknown with curiosity reminds me of a “devil may care” attitude!  If I could venture after my fears with a curious spirit, just think of the things I could learn, experience, and create!

What Does this Thought Ask of Me?

Be brave.  Seek it out.  Face your fears.  Live curiously.  Take heart.  Have courage.  Rest in assurance, and step out from there.

Image that Reminds Me to Pursue this Thought:

Husband and I took three small boys (ours) and 3 teenagers (not ours) into the city to go to the mall and then to a baseball game.  Sure, you could have called us crazy–but we really wanted to spend time with the teenagers.  That generally means going where the fun is…and when we go, most of the time our 3 small boys go, too.  So, we went shopping and then stepped out to walk the several blocks to the game.  Within 30 seconds there was a torrential downpour, absolutely soaking us, the blankets we were going to sit on for the game, and most likely the stadium lawn itself.

Sure, we could have worried about all of the things that might happen if we attempted our plans for the day (funny enough, the forecast showed no signs of rain!).  However, because we decided just to go for it and have a fun day no matter what–we built some really fun memories with some really cool teenagers that we love.  Those are the things that stick with you, the memories, the things that go awry.  We all laugh about this still and it probably ended up being more fun than the baseball game (we didn’t go…we went home and had a bonfire instead!).

If you love quotes or have words to ponder I’d love for you to link up sometime between now and Sunday.  Just add your link below and make sure to link back here so your readers can browse the other participants.  Also, try to leave some encouragement for the other linkers, if you have time!
