I am not talented at painting furniture like In The Fun Lane or The Nester or Pink. They all possess some gene that I do not. But, when The Nester recommended Paint+Primer, singing its praises, I figured I would give it a go. I needed a piece of furniture to plop a TV on for my little brother this summer. Come to find out the pretty white flatscreen TV I bought for the room doesn't even get use. The dude likes Hulu way better. :) Oh well, I'll forgive him. Especially since Husband and I will use it elsewhere when we move.
Anyway, I digress. This desk was purchased when my brothers and I were small and went with the bedroom furniture that made its rounds through our respective rooms. It has a small drawer and cute legs, but is nothing special. (Sorry, Mom! It does serve a noble purpose!)
desk before
desk after one quick coat of paint…looking kind of neon in the Al Gore lighting (CFLs)
desk (now a TABLE, thankyouverymuch!) in its new home
Accessorized using stuff from HomeGoods and a vintage oil painting from Ebay
I know it's hard to tell, but the color is glorious in real life. It is a very true olive color. Not army green, but olive. Beautiful against the blue/green/gray walls and great punctuated with black and white. Love how it turned out. Oh! And, I turned it around with the drawer facing the wall, for 2 reasons. First, I wanted it to look more like a table, less like a desk. And, more importantly because I'm lazy, I didn't want to have to paint the drawer and replace the hardware. I'll get around to that eventually. :)
The paint is from Lowes and it's whatever their Paint+Primer is…and it is worth every penny. It went on gorgeously and easily. Love it…won't ever use anything else!
