Admittedly, my wardrobe is something I like to think a lot about not thinking about. :) Does that make sense? I like to think a lot about how I can spend as little time as possible looking great. I’ve detailed that in The No Brainer Wardrobe, and I still feel like it’s something every woman would benefit from.
Here are some really basic things you can do RIGHT NOW to refresh your wardrobe and your view on your clothes (without spending a dime):
1. Get rid of what you KNOW doesn’t work. Whhhooooosh, don’t you feel like you just lost 10 lbs?
2. Confine what you KNOW works to a set number of matching hangers. Matching hangers don’t have to be expensive, but will make you feel lovely about what you do have to wear. I have 50 matching wooden (cheap! from Target!), and I only keep 50 items in my wardrobe…that way I can keep them all on lovely hangers. When I start borrowing the dry-cleaner wire hangers from my husband’s closet…that’s when I know I need a purge.
3. Pick a color palette that works for you. I do a lot of navy, black, and grey. I know I like to wear red. I don’t wear a lot of purple or pink–so I don’t buy it. Stop buying things in colors you know you won’t wear. :) We all have natural preferences, and you don’t have to fall prey to every trendy color.
4. If you have a little extra money to spend, buy just a few things that will refresh what you already have. If you have a small and edited wardrobe of things you love and feel great in–it won’t take much to refresh and get you excited for the new season.
My eBook The No Brainer Wardrobe is super helpful and walks you through your wardrobe and how to use it–rather than how to let it stress you out. I never spend more than 5 minutes picking out an outfit for the day, I only own 5 pairs of shoes, and I don’t buy random clothes from Target every time I’m there for diapers. I think adopting similar habits would help a lot of women gain a lot of peace when it comes to their clothes and closets. :)
