Haiti is near and dear to our hearts here in the Twig house.  My husband has been many times with a particular missions organization–and all of our friends from his high school have developed close and meaningful relationships with people from the island nation.  I have a little trinket box with Haiti carved into the top that Mike brought home for me on one particular trip while we were dating.  It now sits there and begs me to pray for the people of Haiti every time I pass.

When I started reading Rachel's post on Haiti–I was going to link to it anyway, because I thought her words were poignant and an account of the unfortunate dehumanization of poverty and our American outlook.  THEN, when I got to the end of the post, I realized that she and her sweet husband were going to donate for each comment or link they got on the post.  Fabulous!

Anyway, here's a link to Rachel's post.  She's a great and witty lady to get to know anyway, so check her cute little blog out.

Rachel on Haiti

I have yet to decide how we will get involved to help the people of Haiti–but I have been praying for them daily.  Another friend of mine posted on facebook that a high school friend of his runs an orphanage down there now–and they were attempting to bring each orphan up to the States for immediate adoption because their orphanage was badly damaged and the children needed to be brought to safety.  Wow!  Can you believe that?!  I wish that we were at a place in life that we could just drop everything and welcome another child into our home…but…when does one ever find themselves in that "perfect place"?  Sometimes, I think when those things happen…you just have to go out on a limb and do it.

Don't worry mom, we won't be adopting a Haitian child this week.

p.s.–Our dear friend Jace whose work (from when he was 16!!!  such a talent!!) appears at the top of this post, is heading down to Haiti on February 6th to document what is going on down there.  He had already planned this trip prior to the earthquake, and is still planning on heading down there.  He is such a cool guy, really talented, too…so, I encourage you guys to check out his other work at www.jacefreeman.com.
