I love my iPhone photos, I really do. I’ve captured so many real moments since I’ve had it. I don’t always have time to lug out my “big girl camera”–plus, the boys seem to get all self-conscious when I do, then I lose the moment I was trying to capture to begin with.

Back when we lived in Charlotte I was a real life child and family photographer. I got paid to do it, I loved it, and I got to visit some pretty fabulous houses and photograph some seriously beautiful children. I was an expert, if for no reason other than I did it so often…my photographer muscle was HUGE. Now, not so much. I have lost the ability to capture the nuances of light and movement that make a portrait come alive.

I stumbled across the blog Che and Fidel and loved her beautiful portraits of her children that captured the beauty of the ordinary. That’s what I want to do again. She has a link up that focuses on creating a portrait of your children every week, yet another 52 week challenge. Y’all, I can’t commit to anything for a week at this point in my life…let alone 52 weeks!  And, times 4!

So, I’ve just purposed to create one portrait of each boy with my big girl camera each month. I already missed out on January, and I’m ok with that. I’m going to focus more on what I can do and what I have done than what I missed out on.

Along with the portraits, I’m going to be doing some writing on each of my boys…just to get my creative juices flowing again. But, I’ll probably save that writing for me (and them, someday). I can’t wait to see my growth as both a personal photographer and an intimate writer as the months progress.
