Mother’s Day Update

Happy Mother’s Day–I hope it has found you well.  I just wanted to fill you all in on how today went with Asher-man.  He is darling, looks like a mixture between my two other boys.  He is definitely our son.

Today at 11am he had his lumbar puncture (aka spinal tap).  Glad I wasn’t there for that.  :)  There was nothing visually super alarming about the fluid, but they will send it off to see if it grows bacteria in the culture.  This will take about 48 hours for a result.

They did a trial run for him off of C-Pap, but he did not last long without becoming labored in breathing.  While he could probably tolerate some difficulty, our nurse especially felt that it was more important for him to rest and continue to heal rather than force him to work hard breathing.  We are completely fine with that decision, and they will probably begin trying to wean him off again tomorrow.  He does still have pneumonia in the left lung, although the x-rays are showing improvement.

We are praying that we would find out a more definitive result on the type of bacteria causing this infection.  Pray for that with us?

I was able to touch his arms for a moment today and talk to him quietly.  I may be wrong, but I think it comforted him.  I can’t wait to be able snuggle him in his room, in our home, with our other boys.

We are still praying for no long term neurological deficits.  We have been told over and over how lucky we are that our baby is still here with us.  We are infinitely thankful for that.  We just pray for complete healing for Asher, and we know that our God is big enough to do just that.

Asher-mother's day
Asher all puffy, but, they were putting him back on C-Pap and I was able to get a picture of his face without the tubes.
