In planning how to “thank” or “recognize” the two educators that inspired me the most–I drew a blank. What in the world would show my appreciation? A gift card? No…too generic and the amount I could spend is not in proportion to their impact. A collection of letters from my classmates? I’m sure many of my classmates have written them already. A care package? No, I’m sure they already have enough “stuff” from Christmas.
So, I decided that I would thank them by creating a piece of simple art for them. Text printed on a photograph I have taken within the last year. On one I put a quote from the Dead Poet’s Society–a highlight in Mr. S’s English class. On the other I put a Ghandi quote–suitable for Mr. F’s amazing outlook on teaching Social Studies and students on a whole.
I also plan to write them a heartfelt letter in real handwriting on real (read: pretty) stationary laying out their impact on my life and where I am at the current time. I can’t wait for them to receive their little package. I hope it encourages them to keep working hard and putting the emotional and mental energy into caring for and educating their students.
These are the little bits of art I created for them. I can’t decide what size/paper to print them on, yet…but…I’ll get it figured out tomorrow. :) It’s almost time for music class with my boys…and my oldest is currently belting “Hey Jude” at the top of his lungs in preparation.
