what I learned in December…

things i learned in december

So, last night I explained my thoughts on goal-setting and expounded on my goals for January. But, before I get all crazy jumping into the NEW (January and 2014)–it would be super-wise to take just a tiny pause to celebrate December in all it’s icy, cheery, waaaaiiiiiting glory. My pal Emily Freeman hosts a fun little linkup that promotes this kind of stopping to reflect. She’s super smart like that.

Here’s to the things I learned in January.

1. I don’t celebrate the little wins in life.

One day early last month I realized that while 2013 had been very good to me, I didn’t feel accomplished. It’s not that I saw 2013 in a poor light at all, in fact, I generally see my life through really optimistic, super rosy glasses. I just that I didn’t see anything that happened as exceptional in itself. And, y’all, I had a baby in 2013. If that isn’t exceptional–it’s hard to imagine what would impress me.

I think it might be part of my ENFP personality that is all about starting new projects, but this is something I would love to see growth in 2014. I want to celebrate and linger on the amazing things that happen.

2. Amazon Prime was a gift for the modern world.

Free 2 Day Shipping on nearly anything you could possibly want. Saved my holiday booty, that’s for darn sure.

3. I haven’t been taking as many pictures since winter came.

Whether it’s a dearth of vitamin D or the gray skies or the fact that we’re in our house more days than not, I have taken far fewer pictures than normal. I haven’t been inspired to share visually on Instagram, and I haven’t been capturing daily life with my boys. I think this is indicative of a few things, December sub-points if you will.

4. Pine. Pine. More Pine. Pine equals holiday for me.

One of my November Goals was to find an amazing pine candle. After buying about 10, my 3 favorites are: Mrs. Meyer’s Iowa Pine, Thymes Frasier Fir, and Scentsy’s Winter Pine. Mrs. Meyer’s is my hands down value for price and amazingness. It’s been a perennial favorite of my for over 5 years–and I always go through at least 3 per winter season. It’s a super true pine scent, not fruity or smoky at all.

5. These network television series breaks during the holidays are NO FUN.

Grey’s, Scandal, New Girl, Good Wife. Ahhhh, what is going to happen?! But, at least Downton Abbey is coming back this week!

Y’all. It was a good month. A really good month. But, I’m a little ready for the normality and routine that January will bring. :)
