define your voice

I’ve said in previous posts that your voice is your single biggest asset as a blogger.

To be honest, finding your writing voice is not a 3 step process.  It isn’t a step-by-step process at all.  Finding your voice is about showing up, tapping words onto page, and coming back to do it again.

If I go back to the beginning days of my blog, it reads much more like a journal and not much like myself.  I was getting used to having my words read.  I was learning to edit my thoughts before I put them out into the ether.

Finding and using my voice has been the very most rewarding part of having blog. As my voice grew stronger, I began to desire to use my voice to be a voice for others.

Although there are blogs out there that simply showcase cute kids, cute outfits, cute crafts, and great recipes–Tiny Twig isn’t one of those blogs. I’ve tried that route in the past, and it didn’t feel genuine to me. I’m not a journaler, but I am a communicator. I needed time and backlog to see the way my voice carried best.

In The No Brainer Blog eBook (which comes out in September!), I will be further detailing how to “find your voice”.  There will be lists and exercises and helpful hints.  So, today, I’ll leave you with one question. Would you answer in the comments?

What is the one thing you currently do on your blog that feels forced, fake, or trite?  Can you cut it out?

For me? I can’t blog personal photos without a universal story behind them. I know some bloggers who share their family snapshots beautifully…but, without a story that can resound with any woman I find that it feels disingenuous when I do it.
