So, I conducted the 2014 Tiny Twig Readers survey (very official, no?) and I had a few responses begging an answer for the same sort of question.
So? This “Style” thing, this “No Brainer Wardrobe” thing. What is that all about in relation to you? How does that even fit in? It seems like it’s out of place–or even antithetical to what you talk about when you talk about women being enough or living freely.
And, that makes a lot of sense. Let me rewind a little bit.
About 2.5 years ago, I wrote an eBook called The No Brainer Wardrobe. That eBook was born out of a 30 day blog series by the same name. It was my first little bit of “blogger success”–however you define that moving target. It has been purchased by thousands of women, and I have heard from so many that it has really freed them up as far as clothes, style, and getting dressed goes.
But, I rarely wrote about style after that. There was a reason…I didn’t want to be a style blogger. I didn’t want to be looked to day after day for style advice. I didn’t even know if I could sustain that sort of content, and it certainly wasn’t where my heart felt pulled. I don’t like selfies, and truth be told, I’m not really all that into fashion. I see The No Brainer Wardrobe as one vehicle for the message I am dying to get out there. This life doesn’t have to be so fussy, you are enough as you are, and there is freedom to be had.
Now, I still have fun getting dressed. I’m endlessly inspired by retail stores (more the mall, the aesthetic of the sales floor, the business etc. than actual fashion or haute couture). When I’m feeling uninspired 9.5 times out of 10, I head to this one particular mall in our area.
But, you aren’t going to hear me talking about all the new clothes I bought, because I just don’t buy that many. I know what I like and I stick to those things. I’m getting choosier and choosier as the years pass. So let it be known, the only time I want to talk about clothes is when it makes your life better or easier. That’s it.
And before I leave you, here’s what I have to say about style/clothes/getting dressed today:
- Your clothes should make you feel good about yourself. Even if it means you re-wear the same 4 outfits all the time.
- Know YOUR style and only integrate trends that feel right to you.
- A great pair of jeans and a great pair of boots will make you feel 10x better about your outfit.
