Guys. I have a few things to say.
1. Our God is so big, and so strong, and so mighty.
2. The prayers of the faithful are effective. Thank you for going to the throne of God on behalf of my sweet, tiny little Asher.
3. Asher is a stinkin’ hard worker. He has done more fighting in his 4 days than I have my entire life.
OKAY–now, the AMAZING news. Today (yesterday?? it IS 3am) Asher opened his eyes and acted very much like a normal baby. Taking a cue from Jessi in this post, I asked God for Asher to be a “new boy”–that he would make such improvements it would surprise everyone. Well, Asher is a new boy.
The doctor was at his bedside yesterday when we arrived (removing his arteriorial line, no less, Yay!). She hadn’t had him as a patient yet and she said, “From reading his chart and all that has happened this week, I had to wonder if I was looking at the same baby. He is really looking great!”. Also, the NICU doctors were rounding while we were there, and when they stopped at Asher’s bed–the gruffest, grizzliest Polish doctor that was working on him the first day looked genuinely amazed at Asher’s progress. He had a big ole smile on his face–which was a far cry from his demeanor the first day.
PRAYERS THAT WERE ANSWERED:
1. Still no growth in the lumbar puncture/spinal tap. Yay! Still need another 2 days of no growth there.
2. Asher is off all respiratory support. AMAZING!
3. He is a “new boy” who is acting much more like a normal baby, opening his eyes and making tons of purposeful movements.
4. None of the doctors or nurses said, “He is a very, very sick baby” today. That was like a balm to my soul.
5. They started feeds through a feeding tube. As soon as he slows his breathing enough they will start bottles. Horray!
PRAYERS WE STILL HAVE:
1. There is an indicating test of inflammation in our bodies. The normal number is 1 and Asher’s is 8.5. This shows that there is still a lot of infection in him. We need that to go back down to 1 within 3 days or they will extend his antibiotics by 7-10 days (thus extending our stay at Casa NICU). No biggie if we need to, it would just be nice to have all my boys under one roof.
2. That his muscle tone would continue to relax.
And now, I’m sure that you want to see this little guy you have been praying for. Get ready, because he even LOOKS like a new boy.
