Most of the time, I read books about art. I studied Art History in Italy for a summer. I read blogs about art. I love art, but I don't DO art. I study art, I look at art, I read about art, I feel like I breathe art…but I fall on the sword of "creativity" rather than "artistry". I have convinced myself that I am a creative person, but far from an artist. I tried on a "graphic design" major in college–but, opted out after 1 semester spent in the intro art classes…no one told me I'd have to sculpt, paint, draw, etc! Since then, I have harbored a fear of creating using "real life" mediums.
But, an artist in California by the name of Promise Tangeman (fabulous name, huh?!) really inspired me to start trying to create. Her mixed media works are astoundingly unique and progressive. I only know her from reading her blog–but her spirit shines through even her writing. She is a fresh little lady and I love what she's about and what she creates…plus, she's beyond beautiful…so, she's clearly she's fab.
Her work has inspired me to push past the creative blocks that I have. Its silly to get caught up in what you CAN'T do, instead of focusing on what maybe you can. So, there you have it. I'm going out on a limb with a bunch of Painters with a capital "P"…possibly looking foolish along the way…but I'm doing it. :)
This lady is a complete inspiration to me as well, more on the photography side of things. With portrait photography I can get easily burnt out shooting the same shot time after time. It's the "money shot", the one all the mom's want to buy and give to all the aunts, uncles, grandmas, teachers, etc. But, Shannon, via her blog, inspires me to shoot for my sake. To look for lines, shapes, and colors…the basics of design. She's a jazzy lady. Such a cool, chick. You should check her out, too.
These women are inspirational to me. They push through the barriers of the norm and pursue creativity and art with all their being. Plus, they love the Lord, which is totally cool. :) I love young artsy women who love Jesus. Can it get any better than that? Fabulous!
