I am not what you would call the most healthy person in the world. My ideal breakfast (if I didn’t feel the deep shame of it’s absurdity) would be a Diet Mountain Dew and a King Size Snickers. I don’t exercise and I think I’m trying to imitate the energy one gets from exercise with the quick jolt of caffeine.
I had a wake-up call this fall when my 19 year old brother had a blood test during a routine physical and it was revealed that his triglycerides were 3x the normal amount for a healthy young man. He exists on a diet of fast food for breakfast, fast food for lunch, fast food for dinner, and fast food for a midnight snack. Yet, the kid is 6 feet tall and surely weighs no more than 140 lbs. It occurred to me, he’s skinny fat. And, if I’m being quiet and honest with myself, I’m probably skinny fat, too. That’s no bueno.
In 2014, I want to make marginal steps to better, long-lasting health. I don’t want to throw myself into a crazy tizzy of unsustainable change, but I want to make educated decisions that will better my life and the lives of the guys I share my home with.
These are the areas I’m most concerned about:
- Behaviors, foods, patterns that contribute to my moderate and nearly constant keyed up sense of anxiety
- My core strength and posture (4 kids in 6 years can cause massive issues)
- Investigating essential oils so I can be educated in my opinion (seems like everyone is either FOR! or AGAINST!)
- Energy, and that it comes from healthful sources
And, it’s super fun, because these simple/not too scary bullet points fall right in line with my newly acquired habit of goal-setting and knocking big goals into bite-sized chunks.
I actually am participating in a MASSIVE eBook bundle this week that centers all around healthy-living. I’m excited because a lot of what I was hoping to investigate is well represented in the bundle.
The books I’m most interested in and am already flipping through:
- Farewell, Fatigue by MaryEllen @ Imperfect Homemaker ($6.99)
- Real Food on a Real Budget by Stephanie @ Keeper of the Home ($18.97)
- Energy Explosion: A 7 Day Guide to Jump Start Your Energy by Arabah @ Arabah Joy ($2.99)
- 7 Days to Calm: a guided video course by Lisa @ WellGrounded Life ($37.00)
- The {essential} Oiler’s Handbook compiled by Organic Collective Media @ Naturally His ($9.99)
- Easy Health For Busy Moms by Kelly @ Generation Cedar ($4.97)
Just those books or courses that I listed above alone would cost over $80. But, the women who put together this awesome opportunity gathered 80 MORE books and then added bonus upon bonus. AND, they negotiated a super super low total price of only $29.97. I really really DO think that it’s a phenomenal deal.
You can even print a book out and throw it in a pretty binder–perfect, inexpensive gift for nearly ANYONE on your list!
The book I co-wrote with Jessi from Naptime Diaries “Refresh” is one of the included books and is $7.99 alone. If even just a couple other books look interesting, you’re already coming out ahead. I missed out on a bundle I was on the fence about earlier this year, and kick myself every time I see mention of the books I was eyeing. This bundle is only available for about a week–so, make sure you figure out how to get off the fence. :)
