more passion and less fuss

Since the beginning of this blog, I’ve been about creating a life of more passion and less fuss.

And in that span of time, my life has gotten oh-so-much more passionate.  In fact, I’m exiting a season of incredible passion and incredible determination and obedience.  The Influence Conference was birthed out of a common vision and then a massive amount of work.  We felt the Lord move.

And now?  Now we rest.

I’ve officially declared October 27th-January 31st a season of crazy rest.  I’m talking sweatpants and books and tea and naps.  Oh, and a new baby sometime in January.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean there isn’t work still to do.  BUT, the work will not take the mental precedence it took to get Influence launched.  The work will be measured and the work will be worked to a plan.  The work will be marginalized and the rest will be abundant–rather than the other way around.  There are seasons for everything under the sun.  Stop looking to the 24 hour clock for your balance, that’s guilt-inducing and not at all life-giving.

It’s time for less fuss to rule.  Here’s how that will look in my life:

–More meal planning, but more “daddy-made” meals. :)

–Packing away a huge amount of my boys’ clothes so that although I’ll do laundry more often the loads will be more manageable.  My kids tend to throw all clothes in the hamper–dirty or not.

–More taking care of the “must-do’s” like getting the oil changed, returning library books, scheduling dentists appointments.  These things eat up mental space and keep me from resting completely.  May as well take care of those “to-do’s” before they become emergencies.

–More spontaneous get togethers and fewer planned events.  The planned events leave me feeling over scheduled, but the spontaneity seems to build relationships.

When you need a season of rest, how do  you pare down, simplify, and create a bit less fuss?
