7 boards every woman should have…
1. Have a food/recipes board. I have my husband look through my recipes board every week to pick what we have for dinner. He loves it because he feels like he’s picking from a restaurant menu. I love it because he’s engaged in meal planning and that means I don’t make something he plans on having for lunch with clients! I love following Bree Hester‘s food pinboards.
2. Like I talk about in my eBook The No Brainer Wardrobe, I love having a wardrobe pinboard. I use it to help me shop. I use it to help me purge. I use it to help me define my style. I look to that pinboard to help me plan outfits. It is such a good tool to start refining your style and realizing what you love.
3. I have a home board for the same reason I have a wardrobe board. I like to see what styles I am drawn to. Do I already have certain decorating items I could use in a new and inventive way? My home board is more eclectic and divergent than my wardrobe board because I am less confident of my decorating style. I love to keep up with Nester’s boards to see what stuff she’s into these days.
4. A quotes board is inspirational. It is a great way to collect little thoughts you find here and there. It is like a giant bag of fortune cookies–and as a plus, the quotes are normally beyond beautiful and graphic. Love Megan at SortaCrunchy’s quotes board.
5. It is nice to just have a place to put images you are drawn to. I call this board my inspiration board. It is full of just random things that I love. I may not know why I love them, I may not even make a comment about why I love them. But, when I look back at this board, it makes me smile and I see how my eye is growing and what it is drawn to. Bri Emery is one very inspiring person–so a lot of the pins on my inspire board end up coming from her.
6. Holiday boards are important because they help you plan for things that may be months from now. I don’t go all out. I just have a Christmas and Thanksgiving board because those are the big “decorating” holidays for us. But, this can be really useful when you come across an idea you love but know you’ll lose track of by Christmas. Better Homes and Gardens is a master at curating beautiful boards for every season and holiday and occasion imaginable.
7. A craft or DIY board is a must have. I try not to pin things people have for sale with the description “I could make that”, because it demeans the value of that person’s work. However, there are so many amazing tutorials on the web, this is the perfect place to put every tutorial you are dying to try but may never have time to actually do!
And one thing to think about…
There is a growing voice on the Internet questioning the legalities of Pinterest. As of now, I have not be convinced or personally convicted to delete my boards, but I am interested in the conversation. Take the time to read up on some of the growing concern, it can only do you well to be educated.
One woman (both a photographer AND a lawyer) took down her pinboards.
A blogger who blogs on blogging and her take on Pinterest.
Leave a link to YOUR favorite boards to follow or your own that you love curating. Also, do you think you’ll be on Pinterest regardless of this copyright fiasco?
