While we could talk about winter and the struggles it brings all day long, we’re also determined to talk about the good (say whaaaat?!) that winter can bring. Rest, quiet, and feeling inclined to go absolutely nowhere usually means more down time. Down time means the decisions between netflix and a good book, so this will help you out with the latter. And if you don’t live in a winterized city like us midwesterners than consider this just an good guide for books to pick up while you’re enjoying the mild weather!
Why Not Me?
Mindy Kaling does it again with this one. A funny, easy to read, look at Mindy’s view on everything from beauty to her career will keep you laughing and appreciating the fact that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. With a big focus on stopping to care about how others view you and letting go of some things that really don’t matter made me realize that she kinda gets it. And I know she’s a celeb but the book reads really genuinely, like her first one, Why Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? For real, if you need a light, feel-good book, this should be it.
Essentialism
If you had a crazy fall and are looking to really refocus and get yourself on track in the upcoming new year then this is your best bet! It can help you prioritize and sort out the chaos that sometimes goes on inside all of our heads. It’s also one of our favorite books to reduce stress in general. I wouldn’t normally recommended such a practical book for your light holiday reading, but if you are up for it, then more power to you and you’ll really enjoy McKeown’s take on eliminating things to help you succeed in any area of your life

Girl Before the Mirror
Disclaimer: I haven’t read this yet!! But it is the next book I am cracking open. I read another post somewhere with it on the list and when I started reading the summary, this line sucked me in, “The author returns with the hilarious and heartfelt story of a woman who must learn how to be the heroine of her own life.” So I immediately ordered it up, because there’s nothing like a story to remind anyone that they have that kind of power.
UPDATE:::::: I finished this! And loved it. I sometimes feel guilty reading what some people might consider it a silly romance novel but I think it was more than that. It’s a good reminder that where you think you might end up isn’t not the place you actually end up in. Plus, a great little love storyline.
The One and Only
This is your go-to chick flick kind of novel. And I am a sucker for them all. It’s one of my faves because it is actually pretty unpredictable, which is rare for this genre. It keeps you on your toes, is the perfect mix of sassy and heartfelt. Emily Griffin is the author of the entire Something Borrowed series, so she is credible to say the least. This one is also perfect if you’re spending any time over the holidays on vacation and are really looking to get lost in a fun fiction novel!
